I'm a Master's student in biochemistry at the University of Liverpool. I started Petri Publications to make cutting-edge research readable for anyone curious enough to want the detail, not just the headline.

Why this exists

Most of the genuinely astonishing science never reaches the people it affects. It sits behind paywalls, wrapped in language built for other specialists. Meanwhile the version that does escape into the world is usually flattened into a headline that overstates what actually happened.

Petri Publications is an attempt to sit in between: real papers, read properly, explained in a way you don't need a biochemistry degree to follow with the limitations left in rather than edited out.

How each story is made

Stories start from the scientific literature, not from press releases or other people's coverage. Each article also tells you what the research was actually done on, whether that is cells in a dish, mice, crops, or people. A result in mice is not a result in humans, and that gap is where most science headlines go wrong.

Every piece credits the researchers and their institution, and links back to the original paper so you can read it yourself. If something is unclear or missing from the source, the article says so rather than guessing.
